Crazy
Crazy for feeling so lonely. Good song. I'm amazed/ecstatic about the response that this blog received on its first day of existence. Heard from some people that I hadn't heard from in awhile, which was nice and it confirmed my idea that this blog would be the best way to get into contact with people. Thank all of you for checking this space out. On to the real purpose of any blog, taling about one's self.
I've decided that there's definitely something about heavy metal that just makes you feel alive while listening to it. It makes you want to jump around, break stuff, and in general make a nuisance of yourself. Maybe that's why I love it so much. Though it definitely has its place. I go through times where it's all I listen to, and other times I just don't feel it, and I'll switch to some old school blues or something a little more mellow. But let's be honest, if any of you have been to a heavy metal concert, you leave feeling like you'll live forever. All the adrenaline and endorphins running through your system, it's pretty intense.
For those of you that don't know, I've worked concert security for the last couple of years just as a part time job for spending cash and I've had a chance to see some pretty awesome concerts. Here's a quick top ten best concerts that I've worked:
1. Nickleback with Puddle of Mudd opening
2. Kid Rock with Puddle of Mudd opening
3. Perfect Circle with Mars Volta opening
4. Van Halen
5. Fleetwood Mac
6. John Mayer with Maroon 5 opening
7. Jewel (acoustic only show)
8. Van's Warp Tour (10 stages, 12 hours of music)
9. Los Lobos with Quetzal opening
10. String Cheese Incident twice (hippies are amusing)
I'm sure I'm forgetting some that should be on the list. Here's one for example:
They Might Be Giants Monmouth College
This is probably my favorite concert. It's the first concert I worked security for. I didn't get paid, but I did get to meet the band, escort them back and forth from their hotel to the show, and got to set up the stage and the venue. What made it so great was that Sytil was there and was vaguely in charge of the event. Plus, we saw the concert for free and had a great time. Dave and his girlfriend came down and ended up spending the night and it's just a nice memory.
Enough about concerts. I had a brilliant idea. I am going to use this blog as a motivator and well as an informer. (Snow sucked) I am planning on doing a sprint triathlon in WA in August and I need your help. This triathlon involves a half mile swim, a 14.6 mile bike, and a 3.6 mile run. It's nothing like the IronMan, but it gives me a fitness goal to shoot for. I only hope to complete this course, not necessarily compete. Right now I swim like a rock, can bike for only a couple of miles without killing myself and can run across the street without getting out of breath, so I've got a ways to go. The reason I picked this goal is because I'm weighing about 245-250 and I needed some sort of goal to shoot for. The motivating factor will be your feedback hopefully. I'm going to start putting my weight and amount of time I worked out at the end of every blog and if nothing else it will let me keep track of such things. My hope is that you will give me a hard time if I start slacking in my workouts and give positive feedback if I've been a good boy. Kind of like a large group of personal trainers/drill sergeants that just happen to be my friends. We'll have to see if it works, since I can't seem to motivate myself to just go to the gym.
I promise that not all of my blogs will be this long. Just needed a starting point and the feedback I receive will dictate where this blog goes. Good night to you all.

To be completely honest, I had the exact same idea about putting weight and workouts on my blog. January 2003 I weighed 273 (which is still overweight, even though I'm 6'8"), so I joined Weight Watchers. Middle of September, I was 224.
Of course, I have stopped that completely, and am now back to the 265 range, so I need to do something.
Working at concerts is cool. At Luther, the only one I worked for was Violent Femmes. Didn't really have to do much at all. Went to a concert for free (actually got paid like 30 bucks).
About the heavy metal music -- let me tell you about last night. Kevin gets up, I climb into bed. This is our normal routine. He puts in some They Might Be Giants and climbs in the shower. I listen and read. He emerges goes into the other room and changes the nice Giants out for some of his "other" music and then turns up the volume as well. Great. He's happy and waking up. I'm tired and grouchy and not all that happy about the change. I'm sure heavy metal music has its place (though I must admit the niche is very small in my world) and he certainly didn't find it. The moral of my story is for all those couples out there -- a little consideration in music choice and such goes along way toward making a happy relationship.
You left out what I consider to be the most important detail of the They Might Be Giants show. It was the Severe Tire Damage Tour, and I stayed because I had a flat. Joey's folks were pissed, but we had a blast and I still have the T-shirt.
